Fall Hunting

As you probably can tell it is Fall now and all of the leaves are changing to bright oranges and reds. It is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, with it being warm enough to go without a jacket and not rainy like spring. Fall in MI means that deer hunting season is upon us. I am a nhunter but I have not went hunting this year. Too busy, but oh well I still have ice fishing coming up. Michigan has plenty of some of the best white-tail deer in the U.S. Here is the link to look at the Michigan DNR website which has the season times: www.michigan.gov/dnr

Fall Fishing

I have been reading on the internet and a couple of fishing magazines that during the Fall northern pike, walleye and other larger predatorial fish are more likely to bite. This is due to the colder weather which causes the larger fish to have to "I need to stock up" before winter. In other words you will have a higher chance of catching a much larger fish during this time because they are getting their last large feast in before the ice freezes over the lakes. Tips for retrevial of lure that I saw was the figure 8 technique. At the end of lure retrevial when its almost to the boat, wave your rod in a figure 8 motion. The change in direction like that will trigger the fish to bite!

Shiawassee River

Above: World Record Northern Pike. 55 lbs From Canada
Below: River Systems of Lower Michigan

I spend a lot of my free time fishing, and I fish within Michigan only. I Fish a lot and I have not come even close to fishing all of the lakes, ponds and rivers that Michigan has to offer. I can give you an example of some better fishing spots I have found personally. This 2010 summer I spent a lot of time fishing the Shiawassee River. Located in Shiawassee Co. This summer has been great for Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass in the Shiawassee river. This is due to the removal of the dam that was located in Chesaning MI, of Saginaw Co. Now more species of fish have 18 additional miles of waterway. The Shiawassee River is one of MANY river systems within Michigan. If you are not a fisherman you can also Kayak, or just float in a tube. Even in some rivers that are larger you can get a boat in to just go boating.

What This Blog is About

My first post for this blog I figured I would explain what the purpose of this blog is. I have created this blog to accomplish two main things. One is to give some ideas to others of what typee of recreational activities that Michigan and the Great Lakes has to offer. Secondly, I am going post things I do for fun as a life long resident of Michigan. I plan to have links to current information links and news as well as up to date on what I do each week. Now you know what this blog is about.
